TS Eliot on L&O

I was watching Law & Order reruns the other day when something caught my attention.

When speaking with DA Jack McCoy, a defense attorney said, “I have measured out my life with coffee spoons.”

I don’t read a lot of poetry, but the Law & Order writers managed to reference one of my favorite poems, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.” (http://www.cs.amherst.edu/ccm/prufrock.html)

“For I have known them all already, known them all:
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons,
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
So how should I presume?”

Dare I eat a peach?
